Gentlemen Prefer Blokes… Naturally

Courtney Act is back… and how. The killer queen with killer legs and a voice to die for is heading to Perth, and this time she’s bringing a whole lot of trouble along for the ride. No, it’s not just her alter ego Shane Jenek who’ll be coming on tour (clearly) but a brazen over-the-top partner in the form of Trevor Ashley.

Together, this twosome are sure to make a big splash when they hit Cabaret Soiree downstairs at His Majesty’s this October during Pride. Particularly with their saucy show, Gentlemen Prefer Blokes.

‘Well, it debuted at the Mardi Gras festival back in February,’ Jenek said of the show down the phone from Sydney. ‘It was a little bit of a rocky opening though, in that I actually went skiing in Canada sort of about two weeks before it opened on the night… and I managed to break my leg!

‘I had to have surgery on it and all that sort of stuff, so I got back to Australia and I was in a wheelchair. We didn’t really know what we were going to do. So we had to do some last minute rewrites and call in the talents of Virginia Gay who I think was on All Saints on the tele and she played my celebrity guest star, and it actually turned out to be quite fun and fabulous.’

Now Jenek’s leg is all healed and the pair of them are ready to rock it out. ‘We do a lot of fabulous duets all the way from Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe’s take on Two Little Girls From Little Rock, and we do a very fun number from Wicked! the musical, where Trevor plays Elphaba and I play Glinda, the good witch and the bad witch

‘We also have some fabulous video parodies that we put on whilst when we get changed, and they’re one of the highlights of the show for many people; you can view one of them on You Tube, it’s called The Devil Wears Drag. It’s quite hysterical if I do say so.’

Velma and Roxie, Madonna and Britney, Kylie and Dannii, Patsy and Eddie… this boobsome twosome know no limits. So, what’s it like working with Ashley aka Cleo Coupe?

‘Well you’ll hear him coming; he’s very loud, he’s very camp, he’s very fun, and he is a very talented performer. We’re quite complementary to each other; visually complementary and in all other ways as well.’

Gentlemen Prefer Blokes appears Downstairs at His Maj as part of Cabaret Soiree and Pride, with shows on Friday October 16 and Friday October 17 at 8.30pm. www.bocsticketing.com.au
