Support for Queer Men with Prostate Cancer

prostateA workshop aimed at supporting gay and bisexual men with prostate cancer has been established by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), and will be launching with a workshop on July 27th at the Crawford Lodge in Nedlands.

The new Gay/Bi Men’s Prostate Cancer Initiative will offer support for those diagnosed, survivors, as well as partners.

The initiative is hoped to improve education and awareness; it is being established in all major cities around Australia.

“It is essential that PCFA works with men from the gay community who are affected by prostate cancer so that we are not making assumptions about their prostate cancer support needs and to ensure that we are delivering a program that provides the best source of support for this community”, said PCFA chief executive, Dr Anthony Lowe.

Reports from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare indicate that an estimated 20,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually, 3,300 men will die from the disease.

The free workshop will be held on Saturday July 27 at Crawford Lodge, 55 Monash Avenue, Nedlands. 9.30am – 4.00pm. Registration is essential, contact Greg Millan at greg@menshealthservices.com.au  or phone 0417 772 390.
