City of Perth Awards Funds to Pride WA

Pride ParadeThe City of Perth have agreed to continue to provide funding to WA’s Pride festival. Funding of $45,000 will be made available to Pride WA for the three week long November festival.

Last year the organisation made a substantial loss and in 2013 under the guidance of a new committee plans for the annual festival and parade have undergone an overhaul. This year the parade will be held during the day, a move which the organisation hopes will rejuvenate the long running festival.

Concern was raised at last night’s council meeting that the day time parade may not be successful. The council has requested that Pride WA submit a detailed report at the events conclusion so it may consider whether to continue funding the event in the future.
