In the US a transgender actress has been chosen to play a transgender character in an upcoming rom-com ‘Boy Meets Girl’.

After years of non-transgender actors receiving high-acclaim for their roles as a transgender character, filmmaker Eric Schaeffer has cast a trans* woman, Michelle Hendley, who he believes was the best fit during nationwide auditions.

Having previously worked with the likes of Ben Stiller and Sarah Michelle Parker, the established filmmaker explained how he thinks it’s time for a positive portrayal of a transgender character in film.

Schaeffer is asking for the general public to help fund the project.
