2007 adultshop.com Erotic Art prize opens

by Luke FeldmanOpening on Saturday 10 March is the second adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize Exhibition in partnership with ARTRAGE. Judging from the success of last year’s inaugural SEX Exhibition debut, it will no doubt set more records for attendance levels at the Breadbox Gallery with whispers, appreciation, shock and delight. The finalists have been whittled down to 36 competing artists for the $10 000 prize from hundreds of entries submitted Australia wide. The works on show will represent diverse interpretations of sex, sexuality, erotica and porn.

Through deciphering, discovering and no doubt probing the subject matter both emerging and professional artists have chosen varied, wide ranging and sophisticated ways to present their works in the many forms of sculpture, paint, digital, photographic, film and interactive media.

Malcolm Day, the managing director, of adultshop.com says, ‘The response from artists has been terrific. It’s great to see the exhibition so well supported and I look forward to the public’s response to the exhibition’.

Located at 233 James Street, Northbridge the Breadbox Gallery is part of the Bakery Complex of ARTRAGE. If you haven’t discovered The Bakery or The Breadbox it’s located at the Fitzgerald Street end of James Street, beyond Russell Square (where Pride Fairday is held) on the left if walking from Lake Street, or behind Metropolis (which has hosted some of the XES parties).

Following the announcement of the 2007 adultshop.com Erotic Art Prize, the exhibition opens to the public on the 10th March at 9.30pm. Opening night show includes a burlesque act, live performance by Japanese silk bondage artist Garth Knight as well as local DJ Ben Taaffe.
