Showing Up On CAMPus Means Supporting GLCS

GLCS are keenly aware that times are tough. Belts are to be tightened; tea bags must be used twice. We have this in mind as we announce our sparkling new fundraising endeavour. GLCS are very pleased to present CAMPus, a monthly fundraising event to be held on the last Tuesday of each month at the Court Hotel, kicking off at 5pm on the 31st of March.

With CAMPus, we like to think we’re giving to you while encouraging you to give to us. CAMPus heralds a return to a sorely missed tradition: cheap jugs and $10 pizzas in the middle of the week. What better way to spend a Tuesday evening than in the relaxed company of good friends, consuming reasonably priced food and beverages?

On the 31st of March we are keeping it classic with some great raffles and quizzes, putting you in the running for some fabulous prizes. Behind the scenes we are eagerly brewing ideas for future CAMPus events, including live performances from our community’s up and coming musicians, and perhaps even… get excited… karaoke!

GLCS relies on donations from our community to continue to provide our services, such as our peer-operated phone counselling line (offering support to individuals struggling with issues surrounding their sexuality or gender), our Opening Closets workplace training programme (providing public and private organisations with training about diverse sexuality and gender), social support groups such as 26 Up and the Women on Women sexuality workshops, and our shared accommodation register. We’re currently trialling a new service – the WA WOW women’s online forum (head to our website at www.glcs.org.au for more information). These important services are provided by only one part-time staff member and a small army of hard working volunteers on a threadbare budget including limited government funding. It’s a challenge at the best of times, and as you all know, these are not the best of times.

Maybe you can offer prizes for future CAMPus events, or maybe you’re interested in being involved with organising CAMPus. Perhaps you have a great idea for entertainment or fundraising at a future CAMPus event. If so, we would love to hear from you. You can email us at admin@glcs.org.au, or call 9486 9855.

Or just come down to the Court Hotel at 5pm on the last Tuesday of each month to eat, drink, be merry and show your support for our community!
