2007 National Surf Lifesaving Championships

One of the very sad things to watch at the Mardi Gras Parade this year was the number of spectators trying drown themselves in their own water bottles in a pathetic attempt to elicit a rescue from the Surf Lifesavers’ float. If you think this represents commendable cunning in a clearly desperate situation, get down to Scarborough Beach from 22 to 25th of March for the 2007 National Surf Lifesaving Championships as 8000 of the ‘Twisty’ coloured Aussie icons fly in from 200 clubs around Australia. The championships are particularly special this year as 2007 is the National Year of the Lifesaver, in commemoration of the 100 years of surf lifesaving clubs in Australia.
