Best festival story? I went touring over in Europe with Silverchair and it’s like you’ll be set up next to a beautiful lake and you’ll have the cream of electronic music playing in the tent next to you, one after the other, and you’re treated like an artist.

Worst festival story? Once again I was playing with Silverchair and I was having bottles thrown at me. Bottles full of piss. That happened in Sydney. I just kept on playing at the piano with my head down.

Best headline act you have seen? Possibly Bjork at last year’s Big Day Out festival. I ended up having a fight with a security guard in Melbourne. I was playing with Silverchair just before she started and I went to the side of the stage to watch Bjork and was having a total moment and I was literally crying, her music was that beautiful. So I’m sitting there cross legged and the security guard comes over to clear me off. And so I told him that he’d have to drag me kicking and screaming. He left me alone…

Favourite festival? Splendour in the Grass up in Byron Bay. It’s just not that big so it never gets out of control. It’s about 10 or 15,000 people. It’s just got a really nice festival feeling of music lovers who are there to hear the music… And you can’t go past Mardi Gras in Sydney either.

3 things every punter needs? An open mind, some dancing shoes and whatever they need to put themselves in the right frame of mind. That could mean water… that could mean incense… whatever you want.

Dream festival? It would have to be somewhere beautiful on the harbour. Maybe on one of the islands. It would be limited to about 5000 invited guests and it would be strange collaborations between artists, like Bjork dueting with Tom Waits, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra with Philip Glass and Bloc Party with Radiohead.
