Tanya Croft – Pride Commitee 2007

Tanya CroftMy vision for Pride is the creation of a mentally healthy community for all where we look after and respect one other.

The skills that I can contribute this year are empathy for all people and lots of life experience. I learnt these skills from living 10 years in a harsh community in the North West, Port Hedland, where community is essential or you can curl up and die (which I have seen happen to many). I also have many years working in administration, education, community services and now am studying a Masters in Health Promotion at Curtin University. I’m also very good at finding money from funding sources…..

I hope to combine my studies in health promotion with my specific focus being mentally healthy communities, social inclusiveness and connectedness. This will start with the women’s health forum Pride gained funding for to run a forum on same sex attracted women’s health needs, The forum will aim to increase women’s knowledge about their health (physical, mental, emotional, social and political) and create a safe environment for them to express themselves and their needs positively and respectfully. It will also allow the opportunity to investigate an ongoing community collaborative that will work towards enhancing the health and wellbeing of these women.
