Interior Styling

Giving a room an overhaul does not require mega bucks and mega time. In fact, it can be as simple as a fresh coat of paint and a few well-selected pieces. Here’s a rundown on strategies for all types of styles:

Feature walls are making a return, that is, if they left us to begin with. When considering a new look for one of your tired old rooms, look at the room’s furniture and select colours that will compliment it.

With a fresh coat of paint on the walls, a few high-quality accessories can liven up a drab couch or put some extra oomph onto a tired dresser. The key is to know your style and work with it. Everyone has their own interior style, so be you a minimalist or someone who covers every bench, table and dresser in knick-knacks, embrace your style and put your stamp on your place of residence

To unearth pieces that suit your taste (and your budget), hunt around in home ware stores. If minimalist is your approach, a stunning table lamp or a special vase can create a point of interest whilst maintaining your desire to keep things simple and clean. On the other hand, if more is, well, more, for you, consider loading up that table with photographic memories in stylish frames that say something about who you are.

Recent interior trends in Perth’s home ware stores have tended toward muted colours, and tans, browns, reds and beiges seem to be making a big come back in larger interior items, like sofas. If you follow this trend, then try to work some colour into your room with the accessories. For example, different textures in cushions (i.e. faux fur, leather, tassels, rich suede) and a warm comforting faux fur throw can bring a space to life.

Being so close to Indonesia, Thailand and China, the eastern influence is as strong as ever in Perth’s interiors. Infusing your room with the Orient is as simple as going to one of the many interior stores filled with eastern options and select a couple of pieces that will fit your room. One word of caution with Asian furniture, make sure that you look over each piece you are going to buy to check the quality as sometimes a piece may look great initially but turn out to be quite flimsy on closer inspection. Allure (ph. 9228 9122), 499 Beaufort St, Highgate, is a personal favourite and full of quality goods.

So, as you go about your interior facelifts, think strong style statements that incorporate a bold colour palate and allow you to create something fun without breaking the bank.
