GAELIC – COASTAL BREAKERS

Coastal Breakers entered two teams in the 2008 Gaelic Football Women’s Summer League, and the talent scouts were out in full force. By all counts, the Breakers are shaping up a great winter line-up.

The GAAWA preseason tournament – the St. Pat’s Day Cup (where the Guinness is still green no matter how far from Patrick’s birthday we get) – will be held on 6 and 13 April as a pre-cursor to the more serious winter season. It’s a great time for new players to get down and have a look… or a run.

The winter season opens 4th May at the BGC Oval at Tom Bateman Reserve – a brand spanking new ground. Great pitch soon to be under lights, fancy new change rooms, great bar facilities, pool and foos tables at the ready… there’ll be a few ladies camping out on Sundays. If you are interested in playing Gaelic, visit www.gaawa.org.au to find your nearest club, or to join the Coastal Breakers, contact Ange on 0417 913 206.

LOTON PARK TENNIS CLUB

Loton Park Tennis Club offers something for everyone, whether you are a tennis player, spectator or just like to socialise. Over the past months the club has held two special general meetings during which the members agreed with the Management Committee’s proposal to enhance the membership by offering more playing days and incorporating more social events like Love All and the Dinner Club in the club’s calendar. A group headed to Bridgetown for the annual Easter tournament, and now members are eagerly preparing for the Club Championships on 5-6 and 12-13 April – be sure to come down and cheer them on. The Club’s Annual Dinner and Award Presentation is on 3 May at the Court Hotel with the Quiz Night following a few weeks later. Social Tennis will continue on Saturday and Sunday afternoons throughout Winter. For membership or club event details, visit www.lotonpark.com.au or ring Michelle 0418 942 231 or Gary 0409 376 615.

SWIMMING – RAINBOW WARRIORS

The Rainbow Warriors have been busy this summer, competing in various ocean swims. After the now traditional pre-Christmas Rottnest Thru Swim (a nice swim in one of the bays on Rottnest Island), we have done the Busselton Jetty Swim and just recently the Coogee Jetty to Jetty Swim. All great events! And, of course, all on top of our regular Sunday morning sessions! But don’t worry, we always have plenty of time to chat over a coffee after the hard work in the water. We have also had plenty of cake as we celebrated 2 birthdays!! With the arrival of autumn, the open ocean swims are coming to an end, and we will be retiring back into the swimming pool until next summer.

The Rainbow Warriors swim every Sunday at 9am. If you’re ready for a good training session in the water (minimum of 1km swimming), call Alain on 0414 561 488 for venue details.

SAPPHIC TRAMPERS

Since the Sapphic Trampers lesbian outdoors group started in October 2002, they’ve diversified from only bushwalking (even in the hottest months!) to a wide range of outdoors activities, including snorkelling and kayaking. Now that we’re heading into cooler weather, the trampers are looking forward to trekking sections of the Bibbulmun Track, John Forrest and Serpentine National Parks, cycling in the Swan Valley and a couple of fun active weekends away. For more information and to get a copy of the Trampers schedule by email or snail mail, contact Leah on leahk@westnet.com.au or 0429 699 474.

THE GOLF BAGS

The Golf Bags is a lesbian group that plays 9 holes of golf every Saturday morning at different Metro courses north and south of the river with the odd out-of-towner/overnighter/afternooner thrown in. Golf Bags are not an affiliated club and have been going as a strictly social club for about 10 years. Usually a group of 12 head off each week for golf followed by a snack and a chat. Golfing talents vary quite markedly, but we operate a handicapping system to level the playing field and have prizes every week for longest drive and nearest the pin as well as a handicap winner. There is no joining fee, just a standard $18 to play, which covers green fees and funds prizes, sausage sizzles and events like our Xmas function. If you are a lesbian and golf is your bag, we are always looking for new members. Contact Peta or Anne if you would like more info – telephone 9443 2005, mobile 0438 181 205 or email petanna@westnet.com.au

G&L BADMINTON

After all the excitement of the Melbourne Outgames, it was business as usual at G&L Badminton this month. While numbers are steady at between 30 and 40 people each week, we regularly have people coming in and out of the club: some newly gay people, some teeny boppers, some older divorcees, and so on. The diversity of our community is impressive, and this is reflected each week at baddi!

We have also somehow, from word of mouth in the community, recruited from straight local suburban clubs to ours. Due to popular demand we are also looking at organising social events, such as picnics, movie nights, or the obligatory pub crawl! New players can expect a full and happy welcome to badminton, regardless of their playing experience (or lack of!), and can take part in a fun, healthy and social sport as only our community knows how!

BOWLING – WAGL

The WAGL social bowling league meets every Sunday at 11am at Warwick Superbowl. The cost is $20 for 3 games, of which $2.50 goes into a social fund. For more information, visit www.wagl.org.au.
