Depeche Mode – The Best of Depeche Mode. Volume 1 – Mute

The Best of Depeche Mode vol1Dave Gahan could turn taps on and off in succession and I would think it a masterpiece, bias maybe, but that is the burden I have too bear. Not as definitive as Singles 81>85 and Singles 86>98, but then it would be missing out on 2001’s Exciter album or Playing the Angel from 2005. But as it is the norm now with “best of” compilations is the inclusion of the new single Martyr. Which was originally recorder for Playing the Angel, but it turned out not to be dark enough for the album. My only bitch is that Behind the Wheel wasn’t on board, but hey it does say volume 1, and it does start off with Personal Jesus (**lick).
