With nominations open for the next Pride committee, Pride WA has taken the unusual step of proposing ‘entry interviews’ for new nominees to the Pride Committee.
A panel consisting of incumbent committee members and life members is to then recommend or not recommend nominees’ suitability for the Pride committee. With the numbers of ex-committee members nominated for life membership in recent years, the proposal could have interesting consequences for Pride’s ability to change direction if and when needed in the future.
It is worth noting that the 2006 committee faced a tough year ‘ with only $700 in the bank they had a tough job ahead of them. To their credit this year’s committee are leaving Pride with $20,000.
With a poor turnout at last year’s AGM it is to be hoped that more Pride members will take the opportunity to have their say at the Pride AGM on the 11th of February.
Editors note: In the interests of clarity, I would like to note that while I am a proud member of Pride WA, I in no way write in my capacity as a Pride member and will be abstaining from an active role in organisations of which I am a member while editor of OUTinPerth.
