Film Review: Nobody Else But You (Poupoupidou)

(MA) Directed by Gerald Hustache-Mathieu

Crime fiction writer David Rousseau (Jean-Paul Rouve) goes to the remote mountain village of Monthe for a fruitless business trip and decides to stay in the coldest town in France order to cure his writer’s block. When he stumbles across the frozen body of a young woman whose death is declared as suicide, he decides to investigate a real crime drama. He breaks into her house, discovers her diaries and befriends a local gay police officer Bruno (Guillaume Gouix). The bluesy sound track gives the peroxide blonde, Candice Lecoeur (Sophie Quinton) a voice from the grave as Rousseau finds more and more similarities between the town’s celebrity and Marilyn Monroe. This tantalising suspense drama is part of the French Film Festival, which runs 21 March – 9 April at Cinema Paradiso, Windsor Cinema and Luna on SX.
