SceneOUT December

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I know this because there are more gays than usual shopping at Ikea.

Christmas, Hanukkah and a bit of Eid al-Adha – truly is the season to be jolly. As the festive season rolls on that glowing ember we call the sun burns brighter than ever during the day and balmy summer nights herald the start of the Holidays – there’s nothing in the world like a Perth summer.

And this summer, Connections is certainly one place to be. Connies kicks off the weekend with Friday After Work drinks on the terrace. On Friday December 7, Connie’s celebrates another birthday (never ask a lady her age) with a special After Work throwback to 1975 and the disco era. The next night, Dec 8th, Connies snaps back to the present with DJ Chip spinning for the birthday weekend main event.

Alternatively, head to the Court Hotel on Fridays and revel in their classy new Red Bar for an early start to the End of Week Party. The Court will unveil their brand spankin’ new kitchen on December 6th, which is good news for the many love-hungry ‘Boys Who Kiss Boys’ who will take over the Court’s Dance Bar the same night. A few weeks later, the girls get their turn to cook with ‘Girls Who Kiss Girls’ on December 27. Boys and girls come together at the Court for their Christmas Party on Saturday December 22.

On the 29th the Court will hold a Pride fundraiser with a summer beach theme. It’s all about a bit of a pose and a lot of perv – if you’re thinking it all sounds a bit too Baywatch, you’re wrong…there’s no such thing as too much Baywatch…..

Hot DJs and an even hotter crowd – if you haven’t already heard it will be a White Christmas this year with the Ultimate Gay Dance Party at a warehouse in Wangara (49 Berriman Dr) on Friday December 14. A bus service will run to and from Warwick and Wellington train stations throughout the night. Tickets are very limited, so get ’em now or miss out. More details phone 9379 0718 or 9205 1001.

Meanwhile, Santa will put in an appearance at Pride’s Xmas and Masquerade Awards Night on Saturday December 15. Tickets are $50 for couples, $40 for single (Pride members $40/$35), and all money raised goes to help Pride WA. Contact Sharlene on 0408 097 254 or pride@pridewa.asn.au to purchase tickets. Pride will also hold a special Xmas Women’s Sundowner on Wednesday, December 12th at Grapeskin Winebar. And the following Wednesday fruits in suits (of more officially, the Pride Professional Alliance) get their hoots at the Brisbane Hotel.

For a sporty Christmas, Loton Park Tennis Club in Mount Lawley gets festive on December 15 at 7.30pm with a BBQ, games and (of course) tennis. Entry is $5, and if you don’t have your own racket (or, whoops, forgot to bring it), you can chat someone up and borrow theirs – it’s a great way to meet someone (trust me).

And as we all know, the real reason to go out in December is to scout options for the month’s end. That’s right, it’s NEW YEAR’s EVE. Pull out the lip balm and pop the bubbly because there are no shortage of offerings to ring in 2008. The Court Hotel will be ‘Starstruck’ – expect to see Annie Lennox, Freddie Mercury, Cher, Dusty Springfield and Tina Turner. Luxe Bar returns to its former NYE glory with a dress code ‘metallic’, ‘Shine Like a Star’ themed party, while Geisha goes for a ‘Big Bang’ (after all, it’s New Year’s, who isn’t going for a big bang?). And if Connections Ball is half as fun as their interactive invitations (OMG have you seen the dress up with the dolls on the invites?), the NYE Costume Ball sure to be worth the hangover.

Here’s hoping you’ve all been good girls and boys this year… unless, of course, you were hoping for coal in your stocking and a spanking for New Year’s… Stay safe, happy holidays!
