Hot Potatoes in September

THE CHASER’S WAR ON EVERYTHING (Wed Sept 19, ABC-9pm): All new episodes! This satirical look at the news and current events is still bloody funny, and it’s amazing what the team can get away with (i.e. doing a song mocking people who love DOCTOR WHO and not being torn limb from limb by this columnist). Also amazing on a whole different level is Chaser team member Chas Licciardello, whom I can’t seem to stop thinking about. When he recently got in a bit of legal trouble due to one of the team’s sketches going ‘too far’ (pretending to sell fake weapons to rowdy football hooligans); I was tempted to go to the courthouse and smite any who dared hurt my Chas, like a mad Grizzly Bear sow defending her favourite cub… Your cave or mine, Chas?!!

THE EAGLE (Thurs Sept 20, SBS-8:30pm): Known in its native Danish as ORNEN: EN KRIMI ODYSSE, this is an excellent police drama in which a maverick cop from Iceland, Hallgrim Orn Hallgrimson (his parents must hate him), joins an international team of ‘criminalistic’ and forensic experts to help thwart crime on the international stage… even if the international stage each week keeps looking an awful lot like downtown Denmark. Suspenseful, sneakily plotted series tha reminds me of one of my favourite films, SMILLA’S SENSE OF SNOW (see it now!). Plus David Owe, who plays the team’s computer-savvy type, Michael, is one of the sexiest men I’ve ever seen. No wonder the show keeps him at his desk so often – if he went out into the snowy Copenhagen streets, he’s so hot he’d melt all the scenery!
