Libby O'Donovan Stars in the Meredith Crocksley Project

‘The Meredith Crocksley Project is an amalgamation of stories that I have heard about, lived and witnessed in the lives of women in rural Australia. They are untold stories that everybody in a town knows, but no one knows how they know or who told them. They are a secret history that becomes part of the fabric and complexity of a community: the town drunk, the town recluse, the town ‘nutter’, that family, that woman, that affair…’

That’s Libby O’Donovan describing her show The Meredith Crocksley Project, which is featuring Downstairs at the Maj this month as part of the eight week long Cabaret Soiree season.

The Meredith Crocksley Project received rave reviews in other states around Australia. Adelaide’s glbtiq newspaper Blaze reviewed her show, writing:

‘Libby O’Donovan got a richly deserved 5 stars in the Fringe for The Meredith Crocksley Project and enjoyed the laurel of being the first sell-out for this year’s Cabaret Festival with a reworked version of the show that is much tighter, and even more enjoyable for it. For a program of almost entirely original songs, with a linking narrative that concerns people and places unknown to the audience, to appeal so strongly is a mark of respect in which O’Donovan is held as an artist.’

O’Donovan has had a long and varied career in cabaret and jazz, playing in some of the great festivals around the world including Edinburgh Fringe, Perth International Arts Festival and Adelaide Fringe. If her previous show, Flat on your Bacarach is anything to go by, this will be one helluva show.

Catch the Meredith Corcksley Project Downstairs at the Maj on September 14th and 15th.

The Cabaret soiree season runs for eight weeks, starting on August 31st, and includes arrange of Cabaret style performances including Supremely Motwon on Aug 31st, and Dennis Olsen accompanied by Tim Cunniffe in Party Pieces.

Shows start at 8.30pm. Doors and bar open at 7.30pm so you have time to relax with a drink before, during and after the show.
