The artists of the Edo period in Japan created lyrical erotic prints modelled on the courtesans of the Floating World. Originally included in ‘pillow books’ created to aid sexual pleasure and technique, the works are graphic, yet still delicate and beautiful. Gallery East’s current exhibition of Shunga (Spring Pictures) is not to be missed – ode to the hedonism and transience of a life of pleasure.
Between the Sheets is at Gallery East, 94 Stirling Hwy, North Fremantle from the 6th to the 29th of July. R-rated.
