Obama Administration Calls for Nationwide Marriage Equality

ObamaThe Obama Administration has filed a brief in the United States Supreme Court backing marriage equality in all states of the USA.

The filing of the brief means the US government will line up alongside gay rights activist when the court reviews the state legislation on June 28th.

On Friday the US SolicitorU.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, told the justices Friday that state bans on gay marriage “send the inescapable message that same-sex couples and their children are second-class families.” GeVerrelli said.

Senators and Congressonal respresenttives also through their weight behind the proposal.

A total of 211 lawmakers — 167 House members and 44 senators — penned their name to the 38-page filing, which argues state prohibitions on gay nuptials are unconstitutional for the same reasons the Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013.
