Here’s a collection of bizarre statements made by people about the LGBT community that has left us scratching our heads.
Top of our list is US Christian radio host Kevin Swanson.
When a listener asked what the correct protocol for attending a gay wedding was, Swanson suggested that attending and holding up signs quoting passages from the book of Leviticus was an appropriate way to respond.
“Tell gay couples to die on their wedding day.”
Swanson then went on to tell his listeners that Germany’s Nazi Party was formed in a gay bar in Berlin.
Televangelist Pat Robertson recently shared a conspiracy theory on his television show in the USA.
A viewer phoned in for some advice off Robertson. The viewer was concerned about her responsibility to a local church. She has been driving a man to the church and she knows that the man is HIV+. She asked Robertson is he though she should inform the church of the man’s status?
Robertson acknowledged that HIV was not transmitted via casual contact but then proceeded to share an alarming belief about the San Francisco gay community.
“You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community there they want to get people so if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger,” said Robertson, “Really. It’s that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder.”
Robertson tried to provide some clarification to his comments the following day by saying his experience of evil gays with secret rings was from a few years ago.
The Bishop of Honolulu, Larry Silva has penned an open latter sharing his fear that marriage equality will lead to the US government being forced to accept polyamorous relationships and incest. The Bishop shared a perspective that has been put forward by several members of the Australian Liberal party.
“If same-sex couples are given the legal right to marry under the pretense that discrimination that excludes them from marriage is unjust, why would people who prefer several spouses at the same time not be afforded the same right? Why would we taxpayers be exempt from paying for marital benefits for all those spouses? Why would there be discrimination against those who decide to marry their mother or father, brother or sister, so that they can gain spousal benefits for them?
