Georgi Kay wins APRA prize

georgie 2011Perth singer-songwriter Georgi Kay has been awarded the popular contemporary music prize at the Australian Performing Arts Association’s biennial Professional Development Awards.

Kay, who first spring to attention when she won the WAM Song of the Year in 2010, shared the APRA prize with Husky Gawenda and Thomas Calder.

The singer had a huge hit last year providing the vocals to the Ivan Gogh and Feenixpawl hit ‘In My Mind’.

Recently signed to record label Ivy League in Australia and Parlophone in Britain Kay’s debut album is expected early in 2014. Before then Kay can be seen making her acting debut in the TV series ‘Top of the Lake’ which is directed by Jane Campion and starring Holly Hunter and Elizabeth Moss.

Georgi Kay was named the coolest thing beginning with ‘G’ in OUTinPerth’s annual A-Z of Cool in both 2011 and 2012.
