Dani Wright, the Coordinator of the Freedom Centre has been nominated for the Minister’s Award for Most Outstanding Youth Worker in the 2012 Youth Awards. Announcing the nominations for the annual awards the Minister for Youth Robyn McSweeny commented,
‘To see such commitment, skill and compassion reflected throughout the 119 nominations received this year was very encouraging.’
Wright first began working at the Freedom Centre in March 2005 and in September 2007 became the centre’s coordinator. Speaking to OUTinPerth Wright reflected on the nomination commenting,
‘It’s awesome, it’s been interesting going through the process and it’s a great way to get the work that the Freedom Centre does out there.’
The Freedom Centre which is located in Brisbane Street Northbridge is a peer based support centre to young people under the age of 26 regarding sex, sexuality and gender.
Alongside her role at the Freedom Centre Wright is also the State Director of the National LGBTI Health Alliance; the chair of its national mental health and suicide prevention group and the Secretary of Gay and Lesbian Community Services (GLCS) WA.
The Awards will be announced at a gala ceremony on April 19 during National Youth Week.
