AFL Commentator Apologises for Homophobic Slur

Fullscreen capture 14072014 120004 AMChannel 7 AFL Commentator Brian Taylor has apologised for calling Geelong player Harry Taylor “a big poofter” on national television.

Taylor made his comment during the pre-game show on Saturday. The commentator quickly withdrew his remark and made an onscreen apology.

“I said something I regret and I sincerely apologise to Harry Taylor, and anyone, particularly Harry and his friends who were offended by remark.” Taylor said, “I apologise for that and I sincerely regret any harm that I have caused.”

Channel Seven have resisted called to sack the commentator and have said that he will be counseled. Taylor’s comments come as the AFL attempts to implement a diversity and inclusion policy across the game.

The Geelong player has accepted the apology, saying that he was not personally offended by the comment, but noting that comments of that nature have no place in the sport.
